JSON Minify

Remove every space, tab and newline that JSON does not need. The size in UTF-8 bytes is shown before and after so you know what you saved.

How it works

Whitespace outside strings is insignificant in JSON, so the minified output is the same data. Spaces inside string values are kept exactly.

For HTTP responses, gzip or Brotli compression usually saves more than minifying. Minifying still helps when JSON is embedded in HTML, stored in a database column or sent in a URL.

Questions

Is minified JSON still valid?

Yes. It is parsed and re-serialised, so the output is valid JSON with identical values.

Can I un-minify it again?

Yes, paste it into the JSON Formatter. Indentation is not stored in the data, so you choose the new style.
